THIRD WILD & SCENIC FILM FESTIVAL
ADDS FREE AFTERNOON BONUS FILM
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is returning to Billings on Friday, Sept. 16. The festival highlights 15 short films that are beautiful in their settings but educational and challenging in their issues and message. Some of the films encourage citizens to get involved on issues important to the land, the water, and to our quality of life. Others are just plain fun. And most are a combination of both.
For the third year, Northern Plains Resource Council will host the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Petro Theater at MSU-Billings, from 7-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 ($8 advance). Children 10 and younger are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. The $8 advance tickets can be purchased at The Base Camp, 1730 Grand Avenue; Barjon’s Books, 223 N. 29th Street, or the Northern Plains office, 220 S. 27th Street.
New this year is a free screening of Living Downstream, a 56-minute film about scientist Sandra Steingraber’s battle with cancer in her family only to find out it is all around us in our environment. Steingraber was keynote speaker at the Northern Plains 2010 Annual Meeting in Billings. The film begins at 4 p.m. in Petro Theater the day of the film festival.
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival has traveled nationwide since it started in 2004. Each of the venues is hosted by a local organization as a way to raise awareness for its campaigns and encourage the involvement of local citizens. The film festival tour is sponsored by six companies — Patagonia, Clif Bar, Sierra Nevada Brewery, Osprey Packs, Klean Kanteen, and Grist online magazine — that have come together to make these films available to audiences across the country. The Billings showing also is made possible by several local sponsors including The Base Camp, and others.
The evening program at Petro Theater will include door prizes and giveaways.
Northern Plains is an agriculture and conservation group that organizes Montana citizens to protect our water quality, family farms and ranches, and our unique way of life.
