Beartooth Alliance

Beartooth Alliance is bringing people who love this region together to find ways to protect and enhance the unique mountain environment of the Cooke City/Silver Gate areas.

The Alliance monitors the activities and plans of decision makers and provides input and direction to influence the final outcome. Alliance members gather and distribute information about issues that affect the region and assist the community in finding solutions.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since forming in 1989, Beartooth Alliance has made substantial gains in our efforts to protecting
and enhancing our unique mountain environment. These include:

• Initiated successful efforts to stop a proposed gold mining effort near Yellowstone National Park.
• Monitored the reclamation and clean up of toxic mine waste accumulated since the 1860s.
• Initiated efforts to clean up additional toxic mine waste straddling Soda Butte Creek, which flows directly into Yellowstone National Park.
• Sponsored programs annually on local environmental issues and natural history
• Advocated the responsible uses of off-highway vehicles and snowmobiles to minimize impacts on the environment.
• Influenced modification of the Beartooth Scenic Byway to maintain the aesthetic appearance and protect wildlife.
• Initiated a program to eradicate noxious weeds in this gateway area of Yellowstone National Park.
