Yellowstone Valley Citizens Council
Northern Plains' Billings-area affiliate
Yellowstone Valley Citizens Council (YVCC) is a local citizens group that was organized in 1979. YVCC is a local affiliate of Northern plains resource council and advocates for a healthy, livable, and sustainable community by educating, mobilizing, and testifying to ensure citizen’ voices are heard in the local and state government decision–making process. YVCC also formulates grand visions of a healthy and sustainable community and working cooperatively to achieve them.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Since its inception, YVCC has achieved many important victories, including:
- Helped dramatically improve air quality in Yellowstone County through an ongoing campaign to improve the enforcement of air quality laws.
- YVCC increased individual and institutional patronage of locally raised and processed food through our community food campaign.
- YVCC secured support for a full-time neighborhood planner to coordinate smart growth planning in our community.
- Finally, YVCC successfully challenged efforts to site hazardous waste facilities near the Yellowstone River.
Over the past few decades, YVCC has provided local citizens with numerous opportunities to advocate for a healthy, inviting, and sustainable community.
