Issues
Since 2008, the Sleeping Giant Citizens Council has helped Helena-area residents develop solutions to problems that affect our quality of life, including:
- Educating the community about the impacts coal exports to Asia have on the Helena area in increased train traffic, safety, and health;
- Mobilizing citizens and institutions in support of a state legislative proposal that generated $15 million in federal stimulus funds for energy efficiency in Montana schools;
- Meeting with key decision makers, performing research, and holding events to build support for a “farm-to-school” program to get more healthy, local food into Helena schools.
Events
Sleeping Giant meets monthly, please contact us for the most up to date time and location. Please visit our events calendar for all Northern Plains and local groups (affiliates) events and meetings.
About Us
Sleeping Giant Citizens Council was organized in late 2008. Sleeping Giant is currently working on local foods issues–working to strengthen childhood nutrition, local economies, and Montana’s agricultural heritage.
